AJ & Co Lawyers Launches Private Advisory - Family & Relationships Practice

AJ & Co Lawyers has announced the launch of its Private Advisory - Family & Relationships practice, marking a significant expansion of the firm’s advisory offering for individuals, families and private clients.

The new practice will be led by Special Counsel Chad Heslop, who brings more than a decade of experience advising high net worth individuals and family groups on complex family and relationship law matters in Australia and across multiple jurisdictions.

The Private Advisory - Family & Relationships practice is designed to deliver strategic, discreet and highly personalised legal advice, supporting clients through relationship breakdowns, parenting matters, and the protection and division of personal and intergenerational wealth. The practice reflects AJ & Co’s broader project-led, commercially minded approach, applied to deeply personal and high-stakes matters.

Chad advises on all aspects of family and relationship law, including complex property settlements involving trust structures, private businesses and self-managed superannuation funds, binding financial agreements and risk management strategies, spousal maintenance and child support matters, and complex parenting disputes. He also has significant experience in cross-jurisdictional matters, including international child abduction proceedings and Hague Convention matters.

Managing Partner Andrew Johnson said the launch of the new practice reflects the firm’s continued evolution and focus on meeting the needs of sophisticated private clients.

“This is an important and deliberate expansion of our offering. Chad is an exceptional lawyer with a rare ability to combine deep technical expertise with sound commercial judgement and genuine empathy for clients navigating difficult transitions. His practice aligns strongly with our values and the way we advise clients across the firm.”

Chad is known for his strategic, client-first approach and his ability to manage high-value and emotionally complex matters with clarity and focus. His recent experience includes advising on property proceedings involving multi-billion-dollar asset pools, securing the return of children wrongfully removed overseas, and achieving significant financial and parenting outcomes for clients through both negotiated resolutions and litigation.

Commenting on the launch, Chad said:

“I’m a family lawyer who cares as much about people as I do about the law. I believe the best outcomes come from listening first and then building a clear, practical plan that reflects both personal priorities and commercial realities. I’m excited to be building this practice at AJ & Co and supporting clients through some of the most important decisions they will ever make.”

The introduction of Private Advisory - Family & Relationships further strengthens AJ & Co’s national private advisory platform and reinforces its commitment to delivering trusted, strategic advice across both commercial and personal legal matters.
